If your employer grants your request, you may, in fact, shorten your notice period by using any unused holiday vacation. Nonetheless, as privileged leaves are typically repaid in the employee’s final settlement, some employers discourage their staff from taking them during the notice period. Employers could also consider it disrespectful to request PTO or sick days during the resignation period.
In the event that you choose to take a leave of absence during your notice period, you should: Notify your employer in writing, Give notification as quickly as possible, specify the rationale for your request, and, if necessary, provide evidence to support it.
