In October 2023, the Times of India reported that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) had a bench of about 60,000 people, which is roughly 10% of its 600,000-strong workforce. However, in April 2023,
TCS had experienced similar trends to Infosys, where a drop in demand led to a larger bench size. As of Q4 FY23, 20% of Infosys’ employees were not actively working on a project, which amounts to around 68,646 people who were still being paid a monthly salary.
According to Subramaniam, TCS has a bench to handle any incoming demand. “Of the 6 lakh employees, or roughly 60,000 people, 10% are on the bench and could be used more effectively. However, within the previous 12 months, each of these individuals underwent training, induction, and upskilling.
