Typically, new hires at TCS start out as Assistant System Engineers (ASEs), which are C1 grade positions. Their performance is so strong that after a year or so they are upgraded to just “Systems Engineer,” most likely staying in the C1 grade.
You can advance to higher grades like C2 or even C3 as you gain experience (around 4-6 years) and take on greater responsibility. Title changes, such as IT Analyst (ITA) or even Tech Lead, are frequently associated with these improvements.
Therefore, the title “Systems Engineer” denotes a position inside the TCS career path rather than a grade. Your experience level and present position inside the organisation will determine your grade.
In Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the role of a Systems Engineer is typically considered to be a part of the entry-level or junior level in the company’s hierarchical structure. Y is Assistant Systems Engineer (Trainee) with 0 to 1 year of experience. C1-Y is Assistant Systems Engineer with 1 to 2 years of experience. C1 is a Systems Engineer with 2 to 4 years of experience.
