It’s overtime, which means you’re working more than your contracted hours. You simply cannot be forced to work. Your boss can request overtime, but he or she cannot impose it.
However, if you decide to get right in and refuse any overtime, please proceed with precaution. Employers have ways and means of transferring people on when they are unable to work as a team.
